PSNext Installations

PSNext was a project management software running in N-tier architecture and thought in a modular way.

It was my first real professional experience after fresh out of school.

My role at Le Bihan IT Consulting was divided into several tasks:

Establish the first technical contact after signing the service between the client and one of our sales representatives.

By this contact, I made sure that the prerequisites would be respected on the D-day of installation.

Indeed the most common cases were installations on Tomcat (Apache) or Weblogic (Oracle).

Other J2E servers were used by clients such as Glassfish, WebSphere AS, JBoss EAP ... for which I was not (at this time) very familiar.

In this case I installed in my lab a trial version of the product to prepare the installation scenario for the D-day.

Manage the booking of plane/train tickets in case of installations located far from the Paris.

Once at the customer, install and configure the product.

Once the product was installed, my role was to transmit a minimum of technical knowledge to the customer (technical person) and to answer his questions if he had any.

Having to transmit knowledge to each performance forces one to take a step back on one's own way of explaining.

We question its conciseness and level of detail, its clarity, the examples chosen so that the trained person have no doubts about the message transmitted.

It's a work on myself that I was able to develop during this experience .

Finally, I signed an intervention document to collect the client's comments in order to improve the service again and again.

For example, I participated to modify certain elements of the official PSNext installation documentation following returns of customers by this way.

The satisfaction resulting of the work I have provided is very important for me. It was a challenge for me to bring back good comments of my intervention in this document.

The installation involved truly integrating the product with the customer's infrastructure.

In addition to the commissioning of PSNext, my role was to connect the application to a database provided by the client.

There was also the Authentication configuration .

This could be simple (based on a plain text file) but also by Database or LDAP Authentication which required from me to have a good global Infrastructure elements knowledge.

In the latter case, it was necessary to forge an LDAP authentication realm that was specific to the client's structure and thus make it adaptable to the complexity of its organization.

This required me to be adaptable and resistant to stress not insignificant because the service was billed by the day.
